Cartoonist Gets Beaned by 91 MPH Pitch

9 May

Last month, Lee Judge, the cartoonist and Royals blogger for the Kansas City Star, wrote that Royals player Wilson Betemit should have allowed himself to get hit in a tie game with the bases loaded.

Yesterday, Judge stepped into the batting cages at Kauffman Stadium, ready to face the same 81-mph pitch that Betemit avoided.

“[Jason] Kendall strongly suggested that I take it in the bicep…Chris Getz suggested I turn and take it in the back,” Judge wrote on his blog. “I thought maybe I should listen to Chris, since Jason’s a little intense. I’m not sure I should take advice from the Chuck Norris of baseball.”

Unfortunately, because of a machine error, the 81-mph putch Judge expected to be beaned with becamse a scorching 92-mph fastball.

“Wilson Betemit, I apologize,” Judge said afterward as he rubbed his back.
